Satellite Systems Engineer [2021-62]
Provide satellite systems engineering support to classified satellite Bus and Payload Integrated Product Team (IPT) in the following areas:
- Develop and/or update systems engineering products for classified satellite program including program plans and other compliance documentation; duties include reviewing, assessing compliance, and making recommendations to program personnel regarding changes needed to properly align documentation with the program's approach in the associated area
- Develop and/or update space segment requirements documents including space vehicle level specifications, element and lower-level specifications, and interface control documents; duties include development of requirement text, element allocations, requirement tracing, and requirement verification planning
- Coordinate with satellite system leads and other subject matter experts as necessary to ensure requirements are clear, verifiable, and supported by the space vehicle design baseline
- Provide support during flight hardware integration; support hardware troubleshooting and defect identification, investigation, and closure throughout single-line flow test operations and pre-launch checkout
- Provide support to the Assembly, Integration, & Test (AI&T) IPT during functional test activities including initial power turn-on, system performance testing, thermal vacuum, EMI/EMC/PIM, post-storage, and pre-launch; support hardware troubleshooting and defect identification, investigation, and closure during functional test
- Support daily status meetings, test readiness reviews, test planning meetings; support material review boards and failure review boards, as necessary for defects/issues
- Perform general engineering duties including support to all bus and payload systems, as required
Required Skills:
Understanding of Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methodology
Understanding of satellite design principles and various related disciplines such as mechanical, thermal, electrical, propulsion, and radio frequency (RF) engineering
Understanding of bus and payload test objectives, command and control, and telemetry/data analysis in order to rapidly identify and resolve defects
Understanding of space flight hardware including design, test, command & control, telemetry/data analysis, and on-orbit operations
Understanding of hosted/secondary payload designs, functions, and nominal & contingency modes of operation; familiarization of payload interfaces with the satellite host
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work and collaborate positively in a team environment with people of different levels of experience and education
Additional Skills:
Understanding and experience with space segment to ground segment integration
Understanding of Rational Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) requirement management tool
Understanding of Agile and Waterfall methodologies
Understanding and basic proficiency in Batch, Perl, and Python script code development and execution
Bachelor's degree in STEM. Significant, directly applicable experience without a degree will be considered. Engineering or aerospace background is desired.
